Today is a double festival. One is Buddha Vesak Day, which is an ancient Indian word. According to legend, Buddha’s birthday, enlightenment and nirvana are all on the full moon day. This day is specially used to think of Buddha’s compassion and merit! Second, monks officially start the summer retreat on April 15th, and stay in the temple for three months until the July 15th Ullambana Festival to avoid accidentally hurting insects and ants. This practice originated from the Buddha. In ancient India, there were many creatures in the rainy season. In order to cultivate compassion, the Buddha forbade monks to go out and gather in the temple to practice diligently. Today, believers follow the Guru to think of Buddha’s merits! Diligent in the Buddhist path! Dedicate to the sentient beings in the Dharma Realm like a mother, and complete the Bodhicitta! Homage to our Root Teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha!
