《Respectfully Welcoming the Sacred Birthday of Skanda Bodhisattva—-SunGuru Buddha》

        农历六月初三是韦陀菩萨圣诞，在寺院内，韦陀菩萨的圣像立于天王殿弥勒佛背后，面向大雄宝殿。韦陀菩萨为四天王座下三十二将之首，守护东胜神洲、西牛贺洲和南瞻部洲，又名三洲感应护法。于《悲华经》记载，韦陀菩萨在佛陀面前发大誓愿，护持正法，普利苍生。佛陀赞叹，并授记他成佛，为贤劫千佛中最后一尊住世的佛法开启佛—-楼至如来。功德不可思议。韦陀菩萨圣像造型主要有三种，也被僧人看作三种寺院收纳挂单的含义。金刚杵插地面，代表寺院规模小，不接纳挂单。金刚杵单肩扛起，代表寺院规模中等，可容纳一天左右短期挂单。双手合十，金刚杵平置于胸前，代表寺院规模大，可容纳三日以上或长久挂单修行。因地域不同，解释也有所不同。伽蓝菩萨主要护持道场物品与人身安全。韦陀菩萨主要护持修心人的道心，常随佛学，严明戒律，广发菩提。不被无明烦恼所破，而摧破一切无明烦恼。僧团和睦，正法永驻。今日与上师一起，虔诚祈请韦陀菩萨，供养韦陀菩萨，赞叹韦陀菩萨的无量功德，愿每个佛弟子精进佛道，即身成就，吉祥永伴！

The third day of the sixth lunar month is the Sacred Birthday of Skanda Bodhisattva, within buddhist temples, the sacred statue of Skanda bodhisattva in the hall of the heavenly kings and positioned behind Maitreya buddha , facing mahavira hall. Skanda bodhisattva is the foremost of the thirty-two generals under the four heavenly kings, protecting east purvavideha, west aparagodaniya and the southern jambudvipa, and is also known as the dharma protector responsive to these three continents. According to《Karunapundarika Sutra》records, Skanda bodhisattva made great vows before the buddha, to protect the true dharma, and universally benefit all beings. The buddha rejoiced, and prophesied his attainment of buddhahood, that he would become the buddha who opens the dharma as the last buddha to abide in the world among the Bhadrakalpa Thousand Buddhas—-Louzhi Tathagata. His merits are inconceivable. There are three primary postures for the sacred statues of Skanda Bodhisattva, and they are also regarded by the monks as representing the meanings of three levels of acceptance for lodging in monasteries. When the vajra pestle is inserted into the ground, it represents a monastery of small scale, that does not accept lodging. When the vajra pestle is carried on one shoulder, it represents a monastery of medium scale, that can accommodate lodging for about one day. When both palms are pressed together in prayer, with the vajra pestle held horizontally before the chest, it represents a monastery of large scale , that can accommodate lodging for more than three days or long-term practice. Because regions differ, the explanations also differ. Sangharama bodhisattva mainly protects the property of the monastery and the safety of the people. Skanda bodhisattva primarily safeguards the spiritual heart of practitioners, constantly follow and learn from the buddha’s teachings, strictly upholding the precepts, and extensively giving rise to bodhi. Not being overcome by the afflictions of ignorance, but subverting all afflictions of ignorance. May the monastic community live in harmony, and may the true dharma abide forever. Today together with the Guru, sincerely pray to Skanda bodhisattva, make offerings to Skanda bodhisattva, rejoice in the immeasurable merits of Skanda bodhisattva, and may every disciple of the buddha diligently advance on the buddha path, attain accomplishment in this very body, auspiciousness forever accompany!
